Skjold (pronounced 'shy-old')— Precision Recovery, Forged for Protection
Every flight deserves a shield.
The Skjold (Old Norse for “Shield”) parachute is the next evolution in high-performance recovery designed specifically for the hobby market— a true toroidal, six-panel parachute engineered for maximum drag efficiency, reasonable packing, ultimate durability and unmatched reliability. Designed by aerospace professionals, iterated with CFD and hand-built in Colorado, the Skjold (Valkyrie Shield) series represents the perfect balance between performance, durability, and value.
Be aware that this parachute is currently offered as a pre-order, read below to see more details about when they will ship.
Specs
- Toroidal 6-Panel Design — CFD-modeled geometry delivering a drag coefficient (Cᴰ) of 2.4 – 2.6 at 15ft/sec for exceptionally slow, stable descents. (this uses the constructed diameter as the reference area)
- Continuous Kevlar Suspension Lines — Zero-stretch, heat-resistant lines that maintain symmetry under dynamic loading. 1/2", 550lb flat Kevlar webbing goes from the anchor point, up and over the canopy, and down to the vent pull down line in a continuous path. This ensures that this canopy can handle even the harshest deployments.
- Compact Pack Volume — Fewer gores, optimized fill ratio, and minimal seam bulk for easy deployment and repack. Compared to other chutes with similar performance, the Valkyrie Shield will be slightly heavier, but the tradeoff of durability and ease of packing make the extra bulk worth it.
- Reinforced Construction — Two rows of stitching on every seams and bar-tacked attachment points ensure long service life.
Performance by Design
The toroidal canopy shape of the Skjold creates a stable, efficient flow path that increases lift-to-drag efficiency while minimizing oscillation. The result: a smoother descent, a cleaner recovery, and total confidence at deployment.
CFD simulations confirm a projected drag advantage of up to 60% over standard hemispherical parachutes of the same diameter. We have plans to conduct drop testing very soon to validate with actual data.
Pre-Order Announcement
We’re officially opening pre-orders for the first production run of the Skjold series parachute.
This pre-sale is being launched to help us fund materials, testing, and full-scale drop trials that will validate the design before wide release.
By participating, you’re not only reserving one of the first production Skjold chutes — you’re directly helping bring a new generation of recovery systems to life in the hobby.
***Pre-Order Details***
Availability: We need at least 15 chutes pre-ordered before we can order materials and start production. The pre-ordering window will stretch into December. Official cutoff for pre-orders will be December 7th, 2025. This will allow us to get the materials in before the end of the year and start manufacturing during the holidays.
Expected Shipping: Late January-February 2026 (post drop-test validation and dependent on how many chutes are ordered)
Includes: With your pre-order, we will be including a free deployment bag and a pack of small soft links
Your purchase helps fund the raw materials, testing hardware, and drop test operations needed to certify this chute. You’re not just buying a product — you’re helping launch it.
